Platts MVS (Minerals Value Service)

A revolutionary iron ore analytics platform for the mining, trading and steelmaking communities

TSI and Platts have teamed up to provide you with a cutting edge iron ore analytics platform, created specifically to answer the need for more sophisticated value analytics.

Minerals Value Service (MVS) was a privately-held company based in Munich, Germany, specializing in Value-in-Use price discovery for the steel industry. It was acquired by Platts on March 3 2015.

By accessing multiple databases which contain steel plant, furnace and port data, freight, taxes, duties as well as TSI and Platts prices, MVS acts as a web-based analytical tool which enables users to calculate the value of iron ore for specific buying or selling scenarios using a unique modeling and data analytic toolset.

Designed with the user in mind, MVS automatically updates thousands of key data points on a daily basis providing you with the latest and most up-to-date price information possible, resulting in more informed negotiations between you and your customer and ultimately unlocking more value for your products.

More on the Platts and TSI partnership with MVS

In October 2013, Platts formed a commercial partnership with MVS where they became the exclusive distributor of the MVS online cloud-based tool. Under the agreement, TSI and Platts provide a robust set of steel-related price assessments, including the Platts IODEX and TSI 62% Fe iron ore prices, which will form an integral part of the custom calculations performed by the MVS engine.

In March 2015, Platts extended the partnership by fully acquiring MVS. To hear more about how the acquisition can benefit clients, watch this video.

Platts acquired the Steel Business Briefing Group, a leading information provider to the global steel market through its two core businesses, Steel Business Briefing (SBB) and The Steel Index (TSI) in July 2011. The acquisition of the SBB Group enables Platts to provide customers and the markets with the benefit of a larger, highly experienced editorial team, a dramatically expanded number of price assessments and a far more expansive product and conference mix.
