The Steel Index

The Steel Index is the premier resource for independent steel and iron ore reference prices.

The reference prices are based on actual transactions, with data collected from over 400 companies registered to submit prices via confidential web forms. This method of steel and iron ore price discovery is more rigorous and reliable than phone surveys, providing fully verifiable steel and iron ore reference prices.

The Steel Index always welcomes new Data Providers to submit their price data on a regular basis. In return for providing this information, they receive the weekly reference prices free.

The Steel Index currently publishes 21 reference prices each week for key steel and iron ore products. An historical sample of steel prices is displayed here.

Additional price series for Asia, Turkey and stainless steel are currently under development and will be published as soon as the validation process has been completed.
